Filmmakers Shekhar Kapur and Ashutosh Gowariker were working on a film on the life of Buddha but the project never materialised. However, the duo had devoted a lot of time into the research and script of the same. It has been learnt that their work and research will now be turned into a television show. A source confirmed that the show will have 50 hour-long episodes. The series will be a biopic of Buddha and is based on historical facts.
“It will tell the story of Prince Siddhartha and his dramatic transition into Buddha,” said the source.
When contacted, producer BK Modi, who was to produce the film as well, confirmed, “We have the benefit of years of research on the subject. We realised that the scope of television today is larger than films and we wanted Buddha to reach out to the largest number of people possible. Only TV can give us that reach. Big names have contributed to this project and finally we are able to make it happen.”
